Hey there,
Can you believe we are only TWO WEEKS away from November? I blinked and half of October disappeared. (Is anyone else’s to-do list just “think about my novel” written over and over? No? Just me?)
Welcome to the inaugural year of DenNoWriMo’s November Challenge! You may know us as the Denver Region from our NaNoWriMo days, or as FauxNoWriMo from last year [edit—time since COVID-times is wibbly wobbly timey wimey... FauxNoWriMo was actually 2 years ago]. Well, we’ve grown up a little: DenNoWriMo is now incorporated and approved as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization! *throws confetti everywhere*
⚠️ This email has a LOT of information, so please stick around until the end.⚠️
The Official Kick-Off Party 💃
Our Official Kick-Off Party is Saturday, October 31 (yes, Halloween!), at 10pm until the first 2am (ahh, the joys of falling back to standard time).
Location: 📍
Green Mountain II Condominiums Clubhouse
650 S. Youngfield Ct., Lakewood, CO 80228
***Due to map app problems last year we will provide a simple map closer to the date***
Those of you who joined us in the new venue last year will probably remember that the clubhouse has a kitchen and a seating area with tables for the potluck, plus lots of comfortable seating perfect for late-night writing.
For those new to our craziness, a kickoff party is a completely optional party where we get together for a potluck at 10pm on October 31, catch up with our writing buddies, and prepare to start writing at midnight, right when November officially starts. Think of it as a chance to get a head start on your novel. Everyone knows it’s not really tomorrow until you sleep, so when you wake up on November 1 — late, because it falls on Sunday this year! — you can treat it as a brand new day and get another 1,667 words (or whatever your daily goal may be).
Parking: 🚗
The clubhouse parking lot is a little small, but there is ample street parking on Youngfield Court, Zinnia Court, and even Alameda Drive (the neighborhood street that borders the southeast side of the neighborhood) if you don’t mind walking up to the clubhouse via the greenbelt. Watch for signs as there are a few zones on Youngfield Court that say no parking.
Arrival:🔑
The clubhouse locks automatically after 10pm, so we will need to let you in. Early on there will be someone manning the door for this purpose. If you arrive late and there’s no one at the door, knock and we’ll let you in!
Cleanup: 🗑
As usual, we ask that you remember to take any wanted leftovers or dishes with you when you leave. We also would love if a few intrepid night owls wouldn’t mind staying until the end to help us clean up the clubhouse before we leave.
TIME CHANGE: 🕑
Usually our kickoff parties end at 2am, but we will fall back an hour DURING the party this year. Note that writing will only go for 2 hours after midnight, i.e. the party will end at the SECOND 1am. Yay time change mental gymnastics. 🤸
Note: Please remember that you’ll be walking through a residential neighborhood with an HOA-enforced quiet time that starts at 10pm, so we ask that you are respectful of neighbors while coming and going.

Our NEW WEBSITE! 🌐
Ta-da! Meet https://dennowrimo.org! There are lots of new pages to explore, but the most important thing to do first is SIGN UP. Once you have an account, a whole bunch of options open up for you:
- Track your words. We now use TrackBear’s API, so you can choose your project(s) and update your word count right on our site, and it will sync. The Track page also has all sorts of stats, graphs, and cards you can share across your social media. Instructions for connecting are on the Track page.
- Build your Member Profile. You can add a profile picture, cover photo, social media links, and more.
- Browse the Member Directory. You can see who else is writing alongside you this year.
Write-Ins and the Events Calendar: 📅
We already have several write-ins on the calendar, and new ones are added all the time. Be sure to either subscribe to our Google Calendar or check back often!
Want to host a write-in (or several)? Fill out the form on our Events page and we’ll get it added.
Sticker hunters, this one’s for you: search “stickers” on the Events page to find every write-in with this year’s official stickers.
Sponsors and Partners: 👫
Yes, you read that right—DenNoWriMo has SPONSORS! So far, we have Literature & Latte, Plottr, and Save the Cat! (That exclamation point is theirs, not mine... though I would have added one anyway.) You can meet them on our brand-new Sponsors & Partners page.
If you’d like to receive information from us about our sponsors and partners, make sure you opt in to our marketing list. We will NOT share your information with anyone; these emails will come only from us.
Resources: 📓
And finally, check out our Resources page for writing tools and prep/outlining help. (It’s not really prep season until you’ve reorganized your outline three times, right, planners/plantsers?)
In Closing:
Phew! That’s a lot of shiny new stuff for a brand-new organization! Go sign up, poke around the site, and claim your potluck spot. We can’t wait to see you all on Halloween!
Write on? RIGHT ON!
