So what’s a write-in?
One to a group of people gathered together in a place (physical or virtual), at a time, and writing together during DenNoWriMo. Group motivation! Peer pressure! The camaraderie of writers writing together! If you don’t see one at a time you’d like to write, it’s a great opportunity to start your own.
Where do I find write-ins?
We maintain them in our Google calendar, which you can find on the Calendar of Events page.
Can I create a write-in?
Yes! While “Official” write-ins (labeled as such on the calendar) will be hosted by one of the DenNoWriMo organizers, anyone can host their own write-in. We will soon have a submission form available to submit a write-in.
Guidance for creating a write-in
Time and platform
If you would like to host a write-in, make sure it’s a time that works for you. While you may get more people attend if it’s at a more generally-considered convenient time, remember that it’s your write-in. Even if it’s not a time that many people can make, it’s still an opportunity for you to get some writing done.
The write-in can be as short or as long as you choose. You may have just an hour or two to spare for it, or you may want to schedule a full-day event where people can come and go as needed. As you’re the host, you are committing to being there for that time (unless an emergency comes up). Once a week is a common cadence for write-ins, but yours can be a one-time occurrence, or be on a different cadence.
The write-in itself must be free. You may not charge an attendance fee for a write-in.
During the write-In
What sort of write-in would you like to have? Is it going to be a social affair, with lots of chatting? Do you want everyone to quietly focus on writing for at least a certain period of the write-in? Is it going to be competitive, with lots of word wars? Or will it be a mix of the above, depending on how everyone feels like on the day?
As the host, you can choose what sort of write-in you want to run. If you particularly want a quiet write-in or a social one, make sure to mention it!
You have no obligation to run word wars or sprints. If you want to do these, great! But your only obligation is to turn up and write.
Submit your write-In
